World Tourism Day 2022 has Sustainability at its Heart

World Tourism Day has been held on the 27th of September every year for the past three decades. However, due to the pandemic, the industry has experienced quite an overhaul. So, this year, World Tourism Day returns with a focus on the future.

Now that the sector is in a period of repair and growth, it’s the perfect opportunity to rethink how we do tourism to make it better for people and the planet.

With governments all over the globe committing to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals, every industry will have to play its part to help stop climate change. Tourism particularly has the potential to contribute to all of these sustainability goals, so it’s incredibly important that the sector focuses on becoming more environmentally friendly.

At Sagecliffe, we want to allow future generations to enjoy our resort and the beautiful nature surrounding it long after we’re gone. Because of this, we always make sustainable choices wherever possible and are constantly working hard to reduce our carbon footprint.

Sustainability puts the ‘S’ in Sagecliffe

We are passionate about helping guests and visitors make a positive environmental impact while enjoying a stay, and other activities, at Sagecliffe. That’s why we have plenty of sustainable initiatives and only partner with companies that put the planet first.

For example, we’ve teamed up with One Tree Planted – a non-profit organization focused on global reforestation – to plant a tree for every new membership with The Club and for every accommodation booking made at our resort. We’ve also joined forces with JUST Water to reduce plastic wastage on-site and only use environmentally friendly products in our spa and around the resort.

At the same time, we’ve recently installed 24 Mission Solar 385-Watt solar panels to strengthen energy resilience, elevate overall sustainability, and improve the environmental performance of our buildings. We also offer free electric vehicle charging and encourage all guests to be mindful of the surrounding nature when hiking, biking or exploring the 154 acres of land Sagecliffe offers around the resort.

If you’d like to find out more about our sustainability initiatives and practices, you can do so here.

We believe that by making small conscious changes wherever possible, we can help turn the tourist industry into a sector that’s good for the economy and good for the environment too. So, no matter what kind of experience you’re looking for, whether it’s live music, adventure or relaxation, Sagecliffe can help you do it sustainably.
